Replace the Mk5 factory radio with a modern wireless screen.
The Golf Mk5 (1K, 2003β2008) is the first Golf on this list. Early cars often had a simpler stereo; later Mk5s were more likely to have an RCD/RNS-style unit bolted into the dash. The radios we sell replace that factory opening. They are not clip-on modules and they do not sit on the dashboard.
Both radios include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a CANBUS decoder. They replace the factory radio. They are not add-on modules.
Why upgrade a Golf Mk5?
Mk5 Golfs still drive well, but the original stereo is the part that dates the cabin. A replacement radio gives you a colour touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and everyday apps such as Google Maps and Spotify without holding a phone on the dash. The cabin looks fresher, and you keep using the car you already know.

Product options
These are the two existing LJ Automotive radios, not new products. RAM is working memory. More RAM generally helps the radio keep maps, music and other apps open together. We do not promise a specific speed or frame rate.
4GB RAM / 64GB
The usual middle choice. On the 7-inch radio the 4GB options include a reverse camera. On the 9-inch radio 4GB is sold with or without a camera.
6GB RAM / 128GB
The highest option we sell. Both radios include a reverse camera on the 6GB variants. Choose this if you want more working memory and storage.
USB-C versus Dual USB
On the 7-inch radio you can pick Dual USB or USB-C + USB. That is about the physical ports, not CarPlay. Phone linking is wireless on both radios.

Installation considerations
- Early Mk5 radios can look closer to a single-DIN or a different surround than later RCD/RNS units. Compare your opening with the product photos.
- Climate controls stay separate on a normal Mk5 dash. This upgrade replaces the radio, not the heater panel.
- Steering-wheel controls need the included CANBUS decoder and the correct car model selected in the radio settings. We do not promise they work on every Mk5 without that step.
A CANBUS decoder is included with both radios. Steering-wheel buttons can work on Mk5s that had them from the factory once the correct vehicle/CANBUS option is selected. We cannot guarantee factory parking sensors or a factory camera will keep working.
Installing in a Golf Mk5
On a Mk5 you remove the factory radio and connect the new harness in its place. The YouTube tutorial on our site shows a Golf Mk6, not a Mk5, so treat it as a general radio-swap overview. If the dash screws, surround or plugs do not match the photos, stop and send us a picture.

Wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and CANBUS
Both radios support wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. You do not need a USB cable to connect your phone.
A CANBUS decoder is included with both radios. Steering-wheel buttons can work on Mk5s that had them from the factory once the correct vehicle/CANBUS option is selected. We cannot guarantee factory parking sensors or a factory camera will keep working.
Reverse camera options
Not every option includes a camera. The aftermarket camera supplied with camera options is compatible with the radio it comes with.
We cannot guarantee that a factory reverse camera or parking sensors will work on the new radio. Fitting a camera may involve working with your car's wiring. If you are not confident, use a qualified mechanic or auto electrician.
Golf Mk5 questions
Will it fit my Golf Mk5?
It is listed for Golf Mk5 (2003β2008) when your factory radio uses the bolted RNS/RCD-style opening. If your stereo is a square double-DIN with key slots, this unit is not designed for that opening.
Does wireless CarPlay work?
Yes. Both the 7-inch and 9-inch radios support wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. USB ports are for charging or files, not a required phone cable.
Is the Mk6 installation video the same job?
No. That video shows a Golf Mk6. The idea is similar β remove the old radio and connect the new one β but Mk5 surrounds and screws can differ.
Which RAM option should I choose?
RAM is the radioβs working memory. 2GB is the entry option. 4GB or 6GB generally feels smoother if you switch between maps, music and other apps. We do not promise a specific speed.
Is a reverse camera included?
Only on selected variants. On the 7-inch radio, camera kits start at the 4GB options. The 2GB options do not include a camera.
