Golf R Mk6 Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Upgrade
A four-wheel-drive Mk6 that still deserves a modern screen.
The Golf R Mk6 is listed for 2010–2013. It uses the Mk6 dash family, not a later Mk7 R layout. All-wheel drive, bigger brakes and the R steering wheel do not change the radio-shape test. If someone has already fitted a double-DIN aftermarket unit, this radio will not drop into that opening.
Both radios include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a CANBUS decoder. They replace the factory radio. They are not add-on modules.
Why upgrade a Golf R Mk6?
Mk6 Rs are kept because they still feel special. Owners usually want CarPlay for road trips and navigation, not another aftermarket stack that looks temporary. A purpose-shaped 7-inch or 9-inch unit keeps the R interior tidy and adds wireless maps and music.

Product options
These are the two existing LJ Automotive radios, not new products. RAM is working memory. More RAM generally helps the radio keep maps, music and other apps open together. We do not promise a specific speed or frame rate.
4GB RAM / 64GB
The usual middle choice. On the 7-inch radio the 4GB options include a reverse camera. On the 9-inch radio 4GB is sold with or without a camera.
6GB RAM / 128GB
The highest option we sell. Both radios include a reverse camera on the 6GB variants. Choose this if you want more working memory and storage.
USB-C versus Dual USB
On the 7-inch radio you can pick Dual USB or USB-C + USB. That is about the physical ports, not CarPlay. Phone linking is wireless on both radios.

Installation considerations
- Some Rs were specified with a navigation radio from new. The frame still has to be the bolted RNS/RCD style.
- Do not confuse this with the Mk7 R, which uses a completely different dash.
- The install video is a generic Mk6 hatch swap, not an R cabin.

Installing in a Golf R Mk6
Remove the factory radio, connect the supplied harness and CANBUS, then refit the surround. The YouTube tutorial shows a Mk6, which is the right generation, but it is not filmed in an R and the unit on screen may differ.

Wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and CANBUS
Both radios support wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. You do not need a USB cable to connect your phone.

Reverse camera options
Not every option includes a camera. The aftermarket camera supplied with camera options is compatible with the radio it comes with.
We cannot guarantee that a factory reverse camera or parking sensors will work on the new radio. Fitting a camera may involve working with your car's wiring. If you are not confident, use a qualified mechanic or auto electrician.
Golf R Mk6 questions
Will it fit a Mk7 Golf R?
No. This page is only for the Mk6 R (2010–2013). A Mk7 uses a different dash and is not on this list.
Does wireless CarPlay work?
Yes, on both radios, without a phone cable.
Will my R steering-wheel buttons work?
They can on factory-equipped cars once CANBUS is configured. We do not guarantee every extra R control.
Which RAM option should I choose?
4GB is the usual pick if you want a camera on the 7-inch radio. 6GB / 128GB is there if you want more working memory and storage. 2GB is the lower-cost option.
Can I keep the factory camera?
We cannot guarantee a factory camera or parking sensors will work. Choose a camera variant if you want the aftermarket camera supplied with the radio.
